Barges in Amsterdam
>> Monday, 18 August 2008
When I was in Amsterdam about a year ago, I stayed in one of the barges in one of the canals near the city centre of Amsterdam. It was quite an unique experience for me.
Here are some photos taken from the barge i stayed in.
This was taken at the 'golden hour' of the day, you have to just wait for the right time and you'll get very colourful clouds and skies.
Got up pretty early on the next day as I was very excited and eager to visit the city. Waiting for the rest to get ready was rather boring so I took this shot from a very low angle.
Then, I got even more bored so I decided to align the chairs and took another few shots.
A tips: always shoot away from the sun, the sky will always be more blue than shooting against the sun.
This is the barge I lived in during my stay in Amsterdam. Pretty cool eh? The rooms are ridiculously small and there are like 8-10 rooms on a single barge. Of course, there are toilets and bathrooms too.
Calm water gives the best reflection. Never forget to look for reflections during your trip.
Nothing great here, its just one of the busy Amsterdam street.
Unlike some European countries, shops and restaurants in Amsterdam do operates until mid night.
Teasers! This is where you get your 'magic mushrooms' and 'space cakes'. For your information, those are drugs. It isn't really legal in Amsterdam but its tolerated! So enjoy.

haha...ok...we get how bored u were...:P
wow staying in a barge sounds cool.. was it moving or just park at the canal? the barge so small was it shakey when u r inside?
she3p: haha but at least I can capture some nice blue sky..not too bad i think... if I could have slightly more time I'll probably go for a swim in the canal :D
aileng: it will not move when there are visitors staying. But the owner of the barge lives there too and they will sail away during winter.
The water was calm so can't really feel much.
then the water of the canal clean n clear or not? during winter where the owners sail it to?
how do u noe Teaser selling drugs and even the name of it? did u try it or someone offered u a deal on it?
:p
Nice experience waking up in a barge. My husband owns a power/sail boat in the Big Island. Though we never tried fishing and sleeping on it in front of the water I imagine that the experience would be memorable and pleasant.
In Honolulu, we have all the yachts disembarked in the waikiki. I stay at my hubby's friend's yacht one time till sunset. So wonderful!
wow...very nice photo you have.

The 1st photo is breath-taking. I wonder how long did u wait for the 'golden hour' until u snap the photo?
